Pastor Walter C. Mobley, Jr.
Reverend Walter Mobley is the second of four children born to his late parents Walter “Poncho” and Lois G. Mobley, of Detroit, Michigan.
Reverend Mobley attended Detroit public schools and graduated from Cass Technical High School. Upon graduation he attended Western Michigan University (WMU), Kalamazoo, Michigan, where he received his Bachelor of Business Administration.
Reverend Mobley accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in May 1978, and joined Chapel Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Detroit, Michigan, under the leadership of the late Pastor, Reverend Dr. Roy A. Allen, Sr. While still in college, he became active at Second Baptist Church, Kalamazoo, Michigan under Reverend Matthew W. Wright. Reverend Mobley conducted Sunday school classes for young adults and was also active as a campus Bible leader at WMU with Campus Crusade for Christ, Intervarsity, and the Navigators.
Reverend Mobley was recommended and given an opportunity to attend leadership training with Campus Crusade for Christ with the goal that he would become a nationwide campus leader. However, the Lord had a different ministry for him. Upon graduating from WMU, he had a brief career in corporate America as an Industrial Sales Representative until he was called into the ministry in 1982.
In June of 1982 Reverend Mobley was licensed to preach by Pastor Allen. In August of 1982 he was asked to start and lead a campus ministry for African American students at Western Illinois University (WIU), in Macomb, Illinois. In December of 1982 Pastor Allen ordained Reverend Mobley in the Gospel Ministry.
From 1982 through 1988, Reverend Mobley pastored the Christian Faith Ministry which grew from a congregation of 10 to over 200 within a seven-year period. During his work in Macomb, he enrolled in WIU as a graduate assistant and received his Master of Science in Education.
In 1984, Reverend Mobley relocated to Springfield, Illinois, to take a position as a budget analyst for the Speaker of the House of Illinois. He continued to pastor the Christian Faith Ministry commuting to Macomb during various weekdays, and every weekend to teach Bible study, preach and meet with the members.
In the fall of 1986, Reverend Mobley was hired by the Springfield Urban League to lead the Male Responsibility Project, a program targeted to help reduce teen pregnancy and teen violence in high-risk communities. He worked with middle and high school administrators and teachers, faith leaders, civic, and businesses leaders in Springfield, and developed programs that helped youth stay in school and gain practical job skills. Many participants became employed during the summer and improved their grades to attend junior college, technical school, or other opportunities after high school.
In 1988 Reverend Mobley relocated to Atlanta, Georgia to enroll in Morehouse School of Religion, at the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC). In August 1988, he joined the Antioch North Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend, Dr. Cameron Madison Alexander. He was very active in Sunday School and taught in both the young adult and youth classes. He also worked closely with various outreach and social ministries.
In 2004, Reverend Mobley joined Mount Vernon Baptist Church, serving under the leadership of Reverend Dr. R. K. Turner. He served as the President of the Ministerial Ministry, Sunday School Superintendent, Director of Community Affairs, and many other ministerial responsibilities as needed to assist Pastor Turner.
Reverend Mobley retired from the City of Atlanta in 2022, after working there for 32 years. He served in various capacities, beginning as a Training Analyst, promoted to Human Resources Development Manager, Sr., Human Resources Manager, Interim Human Resources Director, and Labor & Employee Relations Manager.
Reverend Mobley is Founder and Managing Director of NAMO-1 Property Development Group, LLC. He also founded T-law Management Group, a Human Resources consulting firm.
Reverend Mobley holds three degrees: Master of Divinity, 1997, Morehouse School of Religion- Interdenominational Theological Center, Atlanta, Georgia; Master of Science in Education, 1988, Western Illinois University, Macomb, Illinois; and a Bachelor of Business Administration, 1981, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Reverend Mobley is also active with various social organizations, serving as 1st Assistant Chaplain of Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity Inc., Eta Lambda Chapter; Volunteer Chaplain, Fulton County Sheriff; Former Chaplain, H.R. Butler Lodge #23 of F&AM Prince Hall Masons; Optimist International; Frontiers International; 100 Black Men of DeKalb County; Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta; Habitat for Humanity, Literacy Action of Atlanta, and Toys for Tots.
Reverend Mobley is an avid outdoorsman. He enjoys golfing, bike riding, hiking, running charity races, bowling, roller-skating, softball, motorcycle riding camping, snorkeling & scuba diving, white water rafting, boating, jet-skiing, and officiating middle, and high-school football.
Reverend Mobley is married to the lovely Rosemary J. Mobley. Together they have two adult children, Noelle A. Mobley and Christian G. Davis.
